The Boeing Stratocriser

SO have u ever gone on one of those big jumbo jets and wonder if there was ever a double decker before this plane,

well my fellow readers the answer is yes

The beautiful turbo prop known as the boeing stratocruiser. the fist of its kind, could transcontinental crossings in a day which is nothing back in the 50's. the first airline to use this airplane is United Air Lines. They would go from JFK Int'l Airport to LAX and then to hawaii.

the interiors were decadent and beautiful and the food was like first class

ahh those were the days when they actually cared about the passenger

Ultralight Aircraft

Well from huge ass airplanes to things that barely weigh 200 lbs. Ultralight Aircraft are small aircraft that you don't need to be licensed for. If your a WWII child, you will remember the notion of a plane in every garage, this is the direct prodigy of the trend. The aircraft itself is extremely maneuverable.

There are many restrictions to this type of aircraft. first of all you are only allowed to carry a five gallon fuel tank which gives you just about three hours of flight (approx. 180 miles of range). Also if the aircraft is heavier than 256 pounds you have to get a license.

The forms of these aircraft are both open and closed cockpit aircraft. For some reason i do prefer the closed cockpit aircraft (less windy i guess?). The ultralight aircraft usually are homebuilt and have one propellor engine. There is also a limitation on the top speed of the engine. The top speed of the aircraft cannot exceed 50 knots (65 mph). Considering that speed it will take a while to actually get from NY to CA so don't think you'll jet cross-country in 5 hours like the A320's of today, although it is a lot more fun than being stuck in a closed airplane for five hours with crappy food. You'll meet people and tour around the cities you landed in then re-fuel and take-off. Its kinda like a road trip except its in the air without the possibility of traffic.

So the next time you see an Ultralight Aircraft for sale look into it, the buy would start a beautiful new hobby.

Ooh and feel free to click on all the links surrounding this blog it helps me with the monetary factor of keeping up a blog. And do suggest new topics for discussion it would help a lot.

Commercial Aviation

In this little segment everything and anything about commercial aviation will be posted, from reviews of airline economy class service to anything about the specifications of the airliners themselves.

Virgin America

wWhen it comes to low cost airlines this one is on my A-list. The food is superb and there is legroom galore. Not only that but the first class is actually affordable, you don't have to be a CEO of a company that Madoff didn't hit to fly first class. And the fist class on this airline is like international first class. This airline flies from the east coast to the west coast and on the west coast it flies along its hubs which are LAX and SFO. The hubs on the east coast are JFK (not sure about LGA) and Logan International Airport in Boston.

El AL Israel Airlines

As a proud israeli at least once a year i fly to Israel to visit my family. Now this hefty flight is a 12 hour flight which is not the easiest thing to handle mind you. So it is extremely important to me for extremely good service in the cattle class that the majority of us "Normal" people use. Although these tickets are extremely expensive the service here is probably one of the tops. The security on these flight are top notch. Here is an obvious example before boarding the plane or even checking your bags there is a security person who basically profiles you from head to toe. The first thing s/he does would be to look on your passport. If your Israeli lucky you, you get the easy treatment just a couple of easy questions about lingual and packing topics. But lets say you are american they ask what ranges from are you jewish to your place of worship. I have seen this way too many times takes over 5 mins and the people are left with the feeling of safety and at sometimes doubt about the airline. Anyhow you get through passport check and stuff then you board the plane. Once on the plane on all the IFE screens you see scenes of Israel's nature. Then once you start to taxi toward the runway the safety demo begins with a cute little cartoon nothing too fancy. Once in the air the cabin crew comes around with drink and these little delectable little snacks from israel with some sort of Zaatar flavoring. THen they start up the IFE it depends on what aircraft you fly on for the type. On the 777 you would get AVOD and on the newer 747-400's you would get AVOD. But if you are unlucky and you get the older 747 the IFE would be the old and terrible loop on several channels. But they get the IFE up and running then they come around with the meal. I must say this airplane food is nothing to spit at even for the Economy class Meal. It usually consists of chicken with rice and with humus and really sweet cake. Later they come around with coffee and tea. Then like 9 hours pass you watch your movie play some games catch some shut eye then they come around with the "breakfast". Mind you this breakfast is shitty as hell. As for the fruit the omelet tastes like shit. But other than that the flight goes extremely smoothly. Then they comer around the Duty Free cart. Then just about an hour later you land in Israel.

I must say this the only airline I feel safe in on that arduous journey. I give it a 10 out of 10. This is deffinately on my A list.
